Nicole Kidman and husband, Keith Urban welcomed their daughter, Faith, in December. Nicole was recently on 60 Minutes opening up about her struggles with fertility. In the interview she talked about Keith, the love she has for the surrogate that carried their baby and their other daughter, Sunday. Here are the highlights.
On her struggle to get pregnant Nicole says: Anyone who’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying. Struggling with fertility is such a big thing and it’s not something that I would run away from talking about. We were in a place of desperately wanting another child. I couldn’t get pregnant. I get emotional just talking about it, because I’m so grateful.
On the woman who gave birth to baby Faith: Having given birth and then being there to see my child born in that way, I felt so much love for our surrogate, gestational carrier.
On confusion over the terminology: We were trying to be accurate. The term ‘gestational carrier’ is used if it’s your biological child and if it isn’t, then you use ‘surrogate.’ I mean, who knows what it is. But she’s the most wonderful woman to do this for us.
On the possibility of more children in the future: I never say never! If you ask Keith, he’d be like ‘no,’ but my sister’s got five kids. [Keith]‘s like, ‘you’re not going to be like your sister, are you?’ I’m at an age now where it’s very hard to have a child when you’re 43. We love what we have.
Congratulations goes out the whole Kidman-Urban family including big brother and sister, Isabella and Connor.
