Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise were spotted in Manhattan on Friday.  Mom and daughter were doing a bit of shopping, and scored a huge stuffed toy!  I wonder if it’s for Suri, or a lucky friend?

Suri Cruise has been in the media spotlight from the day she was born.  No small wonder that, with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise for parents.    There’s just so much speculation about her little five year old life, and Tom and Katie kind of hand it to us on a silver platter.  The lipstick, the high heels, the iPad.

Just another spoiled celebrity kid?  Life & Style Weekly says it’s gone way beyond that.  The cover story for their October 3, 2011 issue claims to have the inside scoop on what’s really going on in the Holmes-Cruise household, and just how bad it is for little Suri.

A former employee places the blame on the family’s religious beliefs:

“Because Suri is being raised a Scientologist, both Katie and Tom have to treat her like an adult. There’s no coddling, and they never tell her anything — they ask. So when she wants to wear her Cinderella costume to bed, she gets to. When she demands a manicure at 9 p.m., she gets it.  And that includes treats for breakfast!”

And while you might have been thinking all this time that the lipstick and heels were the result of parents giving in to the whimsy of a little girl, the magazine’s sources claim that Suri is actually being encouraged to wear them.   Because her parents are supposed to treat her like an adult?  That’s not clear.

I don’t know that I can condemn them for all this stuff.  Do I believe that their life is probably really, really weird?  You bet.  Do I think Suri is probably crazy spoiled.  Yup.  And yes, they have been spotted keeping their daughter out pretty late at night.   And the lipstick is just wrong, wrong wrong, at her age.  But I challenge you to show me a little girl out there who hasn’t begged to wear her Princess dress to bed, or demand that she wear her fancy shoes out to the supermarket.   Been there, done that.  Mostly these things cause no harm.   The only difference is that no one is following you and me around constantly, taking pictures of  our “Oh, what the hell” parenting moments.

Katie Holmes currently stars in Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, where she plays mom to young leading lady Bailee Madison.  At the movie’s premiere last week, director Troy Nixey had a lot of good to say about Katie’s mothering ability, both on and off the screen. He spoke to OK! about his casting choice:

“I was looking for someone who had a really strong maternal instinct. Someone who would be believable in the process of at first not being a parent and then taking a responsibility in that role as the movie went on.  I knew that Katie with her strength and her innate ability to be maternal and as an actor would be able to do it.”

Because Katie’s daughter Suri Cruise was often on set with her mom, Nixey got to witness her parenting skills first-hand.  What’s Katie like as a real-life mom?

“Oh fantastic. Fantastic! Absolutely incredible.”

A determined-looking Suri Cruise left her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday with her parents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.   She carried a princess umbrella -ella-ella-ella against the rain.  Mom has done well teaching her daughter to keep her head down in front of the paparazzi, but I’m just glad Miss Suri has finally learned to walk on her own!

Katie Holmes and husband, Tom Cruise, were spotted on the red carpet Monday night for the HBO mini-series, The Kennedys, at The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Samuel Goldwyn Theater in  Beverly Hills, California. The series is controversial as The History Channel dumped the series following claims it was inaccurate and there are also claims the Kennedy family is also unhappy with it.

Katie revealed what it was like to play Jackie Kennedy.

“Playing a character like her is daunting because so many people have their idea of who she was and they have their love for her, so I got to work and did a lot of research and I discovered even more how amazing she was, and how much she did for the arts. She brought amazing artists into the White House. She restored the White House, and had very small young children when she took on the role as First Lady so I realize how strong she was. When I really sat down and did all the research I thought ‘wow, she was very wise and very much beyond her years.’”

Her other co-star is Greg Kinnear, he plays John F. Kennedy.

Things seem to just be happening for Katie Holmes. Her latest gig? The face of Ann Taylor. She is so sophisticated and elegant in this ad for the Spring 2011 campaign.

The pictures are by Tom Munro, and they feature Katie in various pieces of Ann Taylor clothing around her house in Los Angeles. I think just for that alone I can’t wait to see the full campaign.  Heidi Klum and Naomi Watts have also been past faces for the brand.

Katie Holmes looks amazing on the February 2011 issue of Elle magazine. It’s nice to see her out there again. I know though it makes me miss Dawson’s Creek all over again. In the issue she talks about fashion, her daughter, Suri, and her new movie. Here are the highlights:

On Suri’s eye for fashion: “The other day we came out of a store, and she said, ‘I want to go there,’ pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, ‘Wow, Suri. You’re something. You picked that out from a football field away.’”

On her junior stylist: “[Suri will] really tell me [what she thinks]. Like today I’m wearing brown suede pants, and she said, ‘I don’t like your pants.’ But then she’ll say, ‘You’ve got to wear these shoes.’ Or ‘That’s so pretty, Mom.’”

On her latest role, portraying Jackie Kennedy Onassis: “I didn’t realize that she had lost a child in August and then [Jack] was assassinated in November. I couldn’t believe it. She had so much strength….I loved her love of family, how important it was for her to be a good mother.”

On the paparazzi: “I don’t worry so much. It is what it is, and it’s fine. I’ll go somewhere because I need to get something done.”

Katie Holmes and daughter, Suri, dressed in furry gingerbread pajamas, were spotted on the set of Katie’s new movie, Jack and Jill. Doesn’t the Grove look so good at this time of year? I have to admit that I love going shopping because of all the Christmas decorations.

Katie was up early this morning to help present the 2010 Golden Globe nominations with Josh Duhamel. That has to be a fun job!

Suri Cruise looks like a pro as she hangs out on the movie set with her mom, Katie Holmes. Katie is filming, Jack and Jill, in Los Angeles.  Dad, Tom Cruise, is busy filming, Mission Impossible 3, in Prague, so mom is taking care of Suri on her own. It looks like  Suri knows what she is doing though.

The film tells the story of Jack who is forced to deal with his twin sister, Jill, when she visits for Thanksgiving, but then won’t leave. Both Jack and Jill are being played by Adam Sandler and Katie plays Jack’s wife. It’s set for release in 2011.

Katie Holmes was spotted at the same luncheon as Amy Adams was at yesterday. It was the 2nd annual Variety Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California. At the event, Katie beamed that daughter, Suri, was really into ballet right now.

“She loves ballet. She’s great at it.”

I bet Suri just looks adorable in a tutu!
