A Great New Snack For Kids: Apple Sweets

We had a new superstore Walmart open here just recently and I admit that is the only place I do my grocery shopping now. I find the selection is different and much cheaper than the other grocery stores we have around here. At one of the trips to Walmart last week I found these really cool apple slices, Apple Sweets. I am lazy. I admit it and it’s much easier to have the apples sliced and ready for your kids to eat whenever they are already prepared. And check these apples out they are infused with Wild Berry or Country Fair Caramel flavoring.

When I was eating the second bag that I stole from my son I had to figure out how they got the flavoring in. You can faintly taste the wild berry but I wasn’t sure how. I found their site and they are really top secret on how they do it. They just say that it is “infused” with the flavor at processing.

I think it’s a great idea for the kids that hate eating plain apples. And if it has caramel flavor too you have the taste without the mess.

Check Out These New Ketchup Packets

Heinz Ketchup

One of the greatest perks of the job is seeing things I like and writing about them. I saw this this morning when a friend of mine Popbytes said that he loved this new redesign. Now, I am not really a fan of eating much ketchup but as a mom I think this is the most amazing invention ever.

I go to McDonald’s once a week with the kids and I hate it when we always have to squeeze the packets of ketchup onto a napkin. Or we squeeze them into the little cups because I hate the sound of my french fries hitting my napkin. This solution is perfect! I can either squeeze it out (say if I am at home and I ran out of ketchup and wanted to use them) or I can use them to dip my french fries in. I think it’s pretty handy!

The article that was talking about them wasn’t so sure if restaurants would grab them though, unless they were cost effective. I find they might even help when people (mostly mothers) order their food in the drive-thru to make the kids happy and give them their french fries. Now at least they can rest that ketchup packet on an arm rest and then the kids could dip them. I could probably think of a million ways to use these.

I know…it’s just ketchup.

My Top 10 Favorite Guest Appearances On Sesame Street

November 12th, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in Celebrities, Celebrity Dads, Celebrity Kids, General News No Comments »

Sesame Street

It’s Sesame Street’s 40th Anniversary this week and everyone has been celebrating. I finally figured out what I wanted to do to celebrate remembering this show has been on longer than I have been alive. When I was a kid and still even when I watched the show with my kids I loved the guest stars. They were always so funny interacting with Grover, Elmo or Cookie Monster. Here is my list of the Top 10 favorite guests on Sesame Street.

Number 10.  Johnny Cash appeared with Oscar and sang the song, Nasty Dan. There really wasn’t anyone like Johnny.

Number 9. David Beckham appeared with Elmo explaining the word persistent. And there is something cute about David explaining to kids.

Number 8. Neil Patrick Harris appeared with Telly talking about shoes. Neil is awesome in general and one of my favorites for sure.

Number 7. Christopher Reeve appeared with Big Bird to explain using a wheelchair. I think it’s great Christopher appeared on that show to explain to kids that just because you are in a wheelchair it doesn’t mean you are limited in any way.

Number 6. Ray Charles. Ray sang the alphabet on the piano with the kids. There really isn’t anything more amazing that that!

Number 5. Adam Sandler appeared with Elmo singing him a song. You know that song had to be improvised because Adam is the funniest that way.

An Interview With Chris Illuminati…An Expectant Father

November 10th, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in Expecting, General News No Comments »

Ultrasound

When a couple finds out they are pregnant it seems that everyone only focuses on the mother to be. But what about the father? They must have so many questions and concerns too. But most of the time they sit around in silence and just ride with tide. I have a friend, Chris Illuminati, and he is an expectant father. I thought I would do an interview with him just so people could find out what the dad thinks in all this mess .. I mean the greatest time of their lives.

What is your favorite side effect of your wife’s pregnancy? I’m not sure it’s a side effect but I love that the pregnancy is a Get Out of Jail Free card for social obligations. No one can argue when a pregnant woman doesn’t want to leave her house. Mr. President I’d love to come for dinner but the wife is feeling gassy and doesn’t want to get out of her PJ’s. Some other time?

What is your least favorite side effect of your wife’s pregnancy? She has trouble sleeping. She never had trouble sleeping. Now she is up all odd hours. To make matters worse, after years of insomnia, I’m suddenly sleeping like a log. She will sometimes wake me up to let me know she is having trouble sleeping. What I’m supposed to do with this information I’m not quite sure.

How many sympathy pounds have you gained? They shouldn’t be called sympathy pounds. That makes it sound like men feel bad and put out weight out of sympathy. It should be called expectancy pounds, as in, she expects me to eat when she wants and what she wants. Therefore, my stomach is the size of a Prius. Actually, only like five pounds.

Have you had any side effects from the pregnancy? Yeah, it’s the weirdest thing, every once in a while I’ll scream “HOLY **** I’M GOING TO BE A DAD!”. I never used to do that.

How do you think you will be as a father? According to everyone in the world I’ll be a great dad. I think I will be a good dad but I’m going to spoil the kids. That is never good. I can’t say no. Especially when it comes to toys. Christ, I CAN’T RESIST TOY SHOPPING how the h**l can I say no if the kid’s want to go.

What are you hoping for a boy or a girl? I just [keep] saying I wanted a healthy and happy child. I’m a liar I [want] a boy in the worst way.

Have you been to the childbirth classes? Not yet. I think they will be fun. Can I bring a date though?

The Hottest Christmas Toy Zhu Zhu Pet Hamster

November 10th, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in Celebrities, General News No Comments »

zhu_zhu_pets_hamster

I always love when the Hottest Toys of the season come out. And this Christmas is no exception. Toys R Us  is saying the Zhu Zhu Pet Hamster is the toy to have. I watched the commercial for it (included below) and the toy is just like a real hamster. It runs on it’s wheel it runs along tunnels, you just don’t have to deal with cleaning the cage or being allergic to it.

It looks like this hamster is a cross between the Tickle Me Elmo and Furby of Christmas’ past.

The Cute Wii Baby And Me Video Game

November 3rd, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in Celebrities, General News 1 Comment »

Wii Baby and Me Game

Little girls are always dying to be mom’s when they are little. They try and get the most realistic dolls to try and pretend to take care of a baby. I think that the new Wii Baby and Me game will be a HUGE hit this Christmas.

It’s the first baby-type game for the console that has a baby peripheral. You can put the Wii remote  in the baby’s back and you can hear it crying and giggling over the TV’s speakers. And there is a bonus! If you have the Balance Board you can rock, burp the baby and even try to teach the baby to walk.

I wonder if this one would be like the ones they give the teens in high school for class? I know it’s a great lesson for everyone to learn about the challenges of daily life with babies.

Is A Teen Pregnant On The Cover Of Teen Vogue A Bad Thing?

October 29th, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in Celebrities, Expecting, General News No Comments »

Teen Vogue Pregnancy Cover

The November 2009 issue of Teen Vogue is a little scandalous this time around. Let me tell you why. The girl on the left, Jourdan Dunn, is pregnant. You can’t tell she’s pregnant on the cover.  Now Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley said they didn’t know of the pregnancy until after the shoot. And now has been forced to release a statement about the cover.

“Teen pregnancy is a difficult, real-life issue that Teen Vogue readers (with an average age of 18) are mature enough to be exposed to,” Astley said in a statement. “Teen Vogue felt it was important to support, not punish, Jourdan Dunn, who contributed to a beautiful photo shoot and who will surely have an ongoing and successful career in fashion.”

I really don’t blame them for saying that they did nothing wrong. It would be up to Jourdan to reveal that. It is raising issues all over the place saying it’s putting out the wrong message.

“All I could think about was what my mom was going to say, my agency, my boyfriend,” said Dunn, who is expecting a boy in December. “When I told my mom, she started crying and blaming herself. She got pregnant with me at the same age, and she said, ‘I don’t want you to have to go through what I did.’”

I think that it should be a non-issue if they didn’t know she was pregnant.  But with that being said  it happens  and it should be brought up to the teens that we are not perfect and things can happen like getting pregnant. Teen pregnancy happens..and how can we stop it if we never talk about it?

tinkerbell-before-and-after

It seems like the way of the world is remaking everything. They have remade Dora the Explorer so why not Tinker Bell? I don’t know about you but I liked the old Tinkerbell, she reminded me of the good times I had as a kid. I guess all things change sooner or later.

You can see this new Tinker Bell in her straight to DVD feature donning way more clothes than the other one in her new movie Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, due on DVD and Blu-Ray Oct. 27.

Why Didn’t My Little Pony’s Look Like This When I Was A Kid?

September 29th, 2009 Taylor Blue Posted in General News No Comments »

My Little Pony Batman and Robin

When I was a little girl I played with My Little Pony’s, they actually were the only doll I allowed myself to have. I didn’t want Barbies or dolls. I had to have remote control cars and little toy cars. I thought it was funny that all the horses all had sparkly hair and were all pink and purple. What about real colors like blue or black? I never understood it. (Now a days, my tastes have changed and I’m a lot more girly. But back then I fought it all the way.)

And then I saw these this morning! I thought who ever thought of these was a genius. I especially liked the Joker one. I just like the Joker period. I wonder how many other kids would enjoy these?
