Knocked Up Celebs

It was a mom and daughter day out on Sunday for Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith.  They hit the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica for the Los Angeles premiere of First Position, a documentary about young ballet dancers trying to go professional.

Is Jada OK?  She looks tired and kind of… stretched.   Not her best day, I think.

Law & Order:  Criminal Intent‘s Kathryn Erbe took her kids, Maeve (16) and Carson (8), out for some family fun on Sunday.  They attended a special screening of Aardman’s new film The Pirates!  Band of Misfits in New York City.  The film tells the story of a pirate captain determined to win the Pirate of the Year Award.

Erbe has kept herself busy since Criminal Intent‘s final season ended last year.  She’s been involved with the Addiction Performance Project, a continuing medical education program for health professionals sponsored by the National Institute On Drug Abuse.  The project uses dramatic readings of Eugene O’Neill‘s “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night” to raise awareness of and foster dialogue about issues of addiction.  Last week, Erbe read the part of Mary Tyrone, a morphine addict, in a Chicago performance.

Justin Chambers might have just won the Cool Dad Award of the year for this one!  He and his wife Keisha took their son Jackson (10) to the final day of the 2012 Coachella Music Festival.  This must have been Jackson’s thing, as his sisters (Isabella, Maya, Kaila and Eva) were nowhere to be seen.  I wonder which band he was there to see?

Newly-engaged Halle Berry spent a sunny, breezy afternoon hanging out at Malibu Beach on Saturday with her daughter, Nahla (4).    These two had a busy weekend:  they were spotted heading out to a birthday party on Sunday.   Fun times for a four year old!

Congratulations to model Peaches Geldof, who has given birth to her first child.  She announced the birth of her son, Astala Dylan Willow Cohen-Geldof, on Twitter on April 21st.

Yes, its true- I’M A MUMMY!!!!

Referencing Astala’s father, Geldof’s fiance Tom Cohen, she continued:

My little boy is the most beautiful thing in this world. When he holds@tomfromscum’s finger with his hand its the sweetest thing ever. X

Cohen Tweeted his own happy update:

im a dad he is the most perfect thing ever so proud of his beautiful mum @peaches_g and overcome with joy x

Update:  Courtney Love has apologized to her daughter Frances Bean Cobain, Tweeting “Bean, sorry I believed the gossip.  Mommy loves you.”

Frances Bean Cobain has had a conflicted relationship with her mother Courtney Love practically since the day she was born.   And that’s no surprise:  we’ve all known for awhile that Love is more than a little off her rocker.   But Mom dialed the crazy up a notch last week in a bizarre Twitter tirade in which she accused the Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl of hitting on, and possibly even having sex with, her daughter.

The suggestion is too rife with “creepy uncle” implications to ignore:  Grohl was, of course, the drummer in Nirvana, the band fronted by Frances’ late father Kurt Cobain, and has known her since forever.   So for Love to say things like “he had his hands all over her” and “if frances did sleep with [Grohl]… it’s dave I’m going to kill”  just makes the skin craw… more than just a little.

Frances evidently agrees.  She released the following statement on Friday via Grohl’s publicist:

While I’m generally silent on the affairs of my biological mother, her recent tirade has taken a gross turn. I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. I’m in a monogamous relationship and very happy.

Twitter should ban my mother.

Frances is the only child from the marriage of Love and Cobain.  She was raised largely by her paternal grandmother and aunt, Wendy O’Connor and Kimberly Cobain.  She is engaged to Isaiah Silva, frontman of the rock band the The Rambles.

Most parents would do just about anything for their kids, and now you can count Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie among them.   The longtime, famously unmarried couple finally succumbed to pressure they were getting from their children and have… well, they got engaged, at least.

Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante told People:

“Yes, it’s confirmed. It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”

Although there’s a wedding rumor about Brangelina every other week, the buzz began in earnest earlier this week when Jolie was spotted at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with a large diamond on her left ring finger.   (Catch a glimpse of it here.)

The ring’s designer, Robert Procop, revealed that the ring was a year in the making.  His rep explained the process in this statement:

“I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt.  Brad had a specific vision for this ring…He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand.  Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution.  The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.”

Procop has a decade of experience designing jewelry for Jolie, and with her too:  they collaborated on the Style of Jolie collection.  As with most of her projects, this one generates funds to support the Education Partnership For Children Of Conflict, one of Jolie’s charities.

The couple had been adamant that they would not marry until marriage equality is achieved in the United States.  In September 2011, Jolie told Vanity Fair that there was “no secret wedding” in the works.  However, in January, Pitt admitted that their kids were beginning to put the pressure on.

Pitt and Jolie have been together for seven years and have six children: Maddox (10), Pax (8), Zahara (7), Shiloh (5), and twins Knox and Vivienne (3).

Reality TV is all about the drama, but Taylor Armstrong of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has had more than her share over the last several months.  After her husband Russell Armstrong committed suicide in August 2011, Taylor spilled the details of their abusive marriage in her memoir, Hiding From Reality.   Then there were the death threats.   And then, last month, RadarOnline revealed that Taylor was dating a married man, attorney John Bluher.  Sounds like a soap opera… or a reality show.

Somewhere in all that mess, Taylor manages to find time for her daughter, Kennedy, who just turned six.   Still out promoting her book, she recently told Discover SD about some of the positive aspects of raising a child in front of the cameras.

On the benefit of having every aspect of your life documented:   I have Kennedy’s birthdays…the best home videos ever, because they’ve been documented on television. So, seeing her change, turning four on the show and then five on the show, she’s growing up in front of the cameras and it’s nice for me to be able to look back at that.

On Kennedy’s relationships with the other kids on the show:  I see Kyle [Richards] a lot, she lives in my neighborhood and we have young kids, so it’s nice that Portia and Kennedy — although they’re a little different in age, Kennedy loves to baby Portia and play like the grown up sister. And Kyle’s older daughters are just wonderful with Kennedy, and very supportive.

Huh.  I’ve seen the show with Kennedy’s 5th birthday party, and it’s not exactly what I would call full of pleasant memories. Maybe the uncut footage is less tense, but what aired was not the type of thing I’d pop in the DVD player to relive happy moments.

Ali Landry is the latest in a parade of celebrity moms to blog for People.  She made her first post last week, introducing herself, her recent projects, and her family:  husband Alejandro Monteverde, daughter Estela (4 1/2) and son Marcelo (5 mo.).

Landry acknowledges that achieving the coveted work-life balance is hard, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Juggling work and parental responsibilities is no easy task, but I’m trying my best and just like everything else there are good days and there are bad days.

Even if some days I feel like I’m ready to fall apart, I am ultimately happier than I’ve ever been. My family gives me more joy than I thought possible, and my career fulfills me tremendously. All in all, I feel like am in the exact place I am supposed to be in, doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing.
