Dennis Rodman is way behind in child support and alimony and his ex-wife Michelle Rodman had him in court today to get him to pony up. She was attempting to collect over $800,000 in unpaid child support for their children, D.J. (10) and Trinity (9). She’s also seeking over $50,000 in unpaid spousal support.
Ouch, that’s a lot of money! Why hasn’t he paid? His attorneys (who are evidently working pro bono) say Rodman can’t even support himself, and has only earned $8,000 this year. Furthermore, he’s an alcoholic and is “extremely sick.”
“… In all honesty, Dennis, although a very sweet person, is an alcoholic. His sickness impacts his ability to get work… He is extremely hurt and extremely sick. He is often unable to obtain work because of this sickness. And his sickness is getting increasingly worse.”
Michelle’s attorney unsympathetically says that’s nice and all, but not true. He claims that Rodman makes plenty of money hosting nightclub gigs “all over the world” and says his client is not budging.
Rodman’s penalty for not settling up could be up to 20 days in jail or up to 120 hours of community service. (Again I say, “Ouch!”)
He is currently ordered to pay Michelle $4,500/month in child and spousal support, as well as $5,000/month for his oldest child, Alexis. (Alexis is nearly 20 years old now, so why is he still paying child support for her?)
The parties were ordered to return to court on May 29th.
This isn’t the first – nor will it probably be the last of his financial woes, either: he reportedly owes somewhere between $100,000 – $350,000 in back taxes.
