Elizabeth Banks Opens Up About Using A Gestational Surrogate

Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks is on the cover of Lucky‘s February 2012 issue!  She’s talking about her upcoming turn as Effie Trinket in the much-anticipated film The Hunger Games.   She also got honest about how she and husband Max Handelman decided to use a gestational surrogate to carry their son, Felix.

After Felix was born last March, Banks revealed on her blog that he had been born by surrogate.  She gave further details in her Lucky interview.

“It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn’t implant.  [Surrogacy] is a big leap, inviting this person into your life to do this amazing, important thing for you. And it’s hard losing that kind of control. But our surrogate is so extraordinary, and she’s still in our lives. She’s like an auntie.”

Banks also dished about her son, noting that she hates “being away from him for even 10 seconds.”  Even so, she’s got big plans for their adventurous future.

“My plan is that when Felix is 15, we’ll go skydiving together.  I mean, the guy is fierce and fearless, and I’m hoping he stays that way. Because I want to be that mom. The one who takes her kid skydiving.”

Catch Banks in The Hunger Games in theaters March 23.
