Tim McGraw Says He Would Be Lost Without Faith Hill
Tim McGraw is starring in the new movie, The Blind Side, with Sandra Bullock. The movie is based on the true story of the Tuohys, a white Memphis family who take in a virtually homeless black teenager. Michael Oher, the burly kid without a future, went on to become a football prodigy, now playing for the Baltimore Ravens.
Parade recently did an interview with Tim and talked about how his wife parallels the one that Sandra plays, his cowboy days and his holiday plans. Here are the highlights:
On how wife, Faith Hill, is the same kind of woman as in the movie: “In our family, my wife Faith Hill is very much in control of our life. She works out everybody’s schedule. I wouldn’t be able to function without her. So I can totally relate to a wife like that, and I feel that it is a blessing for me because I would be a mess without her giving me that kind of structure.”
On his cowboy days: “My stepdad Horace taught me how to ride when I was little kid. I worked on a real farm and was a real cowboy, roping and riding and branding and all that stuff. I remember I had a horse called Satan because he was really fast and I loved saddling him up and galloping away. I grew up riding my whole life. I can’t remember not being able to ride, that’s how long I’ve been riding horses.”
On pleasing himself to please his fans: “Sooner or later they’re going to stop liking what I like. But, I just try to do what I like and I think as an artist that’s the only thing you can do. You start trying to please fans or please people other than yourself, then you’re getting in dangerous water. My songwriting used to suck. After 18 years that I’ve been touring and recording so many songs, I think I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I feel like I’ve garnered enough knowledge to sit down and write some music. I think that’s the next progression in my career, I’ve started writing more and recording more songs that I write.”
On his holiday plans: “We have a pasta Christmas Eve, that’s always the tradition since I was a kid and we’ve carried on through our house. And, little elves show up about a week before Christmas and start causing mayhem in the house.”
I love hearing about other people’s Christmas traditions. If you have a good one share it in the comments I would love to hear it.
