Amanda Peet Says Her Daughter Helps Her Cope
Amanda Peet is starring in the new movie, 2012, which is about the world ending. I know I’ve discussed this movie with many people. And it must be harder filming that movie when you have kids at home. Amanda recently talked to Parade magazine about how the movie made her feel and how her daughter helps her cope. Here are the highlights:
On if she’s ready for the end of the world: “I couldn’t be more skeptical. I think there’s a lot to be concerned about, but that’s the least of my worries. I don’t believe in that stuff. I’m scared of other things, like global warming and wars. When I was in L.A., I tried not to think about earthquakes even though we had a couple. I’m also kind of a hypochondriac. But I’m going to really try not to worry too much. That was my philosophy for the new millennium and I’m trying to stick to it.”
On her daughter helping her cope: “I have a daughter, and it helped to come to her after a day of filming one disaster after another because she was just wanting me to read The Cat and the Hat or whatever. That definitely kept me from getting too depressed. I’m trying not to think about what the world will be like when she grows up. I think more about when is she going to start drinking and wearing a g-string and how can I stop those things from happening.”
On how her husband doesn’t cut her any slack: “He says I’d make a terrible general because I’d panic — that I’d be going, ‘retreat, retreat!’ when the enemy was coming. The truth is I don’t find that upsetting because I don’t want to fight a war. But I also have to admit I’m not that good at keeping cool in a difficult situation. That’s my husband’s forte, so that’s why I keep him around.”
