Ming-Na Talks Motherhood

Ming-Na

I know Ming-Na best for her role on ER. I know I was sad when she left the show all those years ago. And now two children later she is back to television on the show, Stargate Universe on the Syfy Channel. Breezy Mama caught up with her and asked her about having more babies and her new role. Here are the highlights:

On having a third child: “This shop is closed [laughs]. I told my husband I would love to have a third child, but we need a surrogate [laughs]. Because this body is not going through it again [laughs].”

On commuting from Los Angeles to Vancouver for the show: “I hate flying – I absolutely hate it. Being a mom makes you do things you don’t think you’re capable of. I’m not a morning person, but when you become a mom, you become a morning person. You get up at 5 or 6 and you’re up. You’re doing things —you’re cooking, you’re cleaning. So, I think that’s really prepared me. [So for the commute to work] I don’t even think about it. I just do it.”

On taking her four year old son or eight year old daughter to work with her: “We try but it’s been hard because my schedule has been so unpredictable. I think next year I’ll have my daughter out for the summer.”

On if her kids could watch the new show: “Because it is a sexier show, I would probably have to fast forward – ‘Hey look over there!’ – but I do want them to see what Mommy is doing when I go to Vancouver for weeks at a time. So, I think I will probably pull segments.”

On staying is shape for the show: “For this particular genre, you never know when you’ll be in a battle scene so it’s always good to stay fit. I’ve been doing yoga. It’s great for posture and just relaxing and keeping me centered.”
