Hugh Laurie Dishes About Being A Parent

Hugh Laurie plays one of my favorite doctors on TV ever. Dr. Gregory House is one of the most compassionate men even though he is the rudest. He brings attention to the people  In real life he is a man with a wife and children. Recently he opened up to Parade magazine about how his family is. Here are the highlights…

How praise is torture to him: “Humility was considered a great virtue in my family household. No show of complacency or self-satisfaction was ever tolerated. Patting yourself on the back was definitely not encouraged, and pleasure or pride would be punishable by death.”

On how his father who died in 1998 would have been proud of him: “I hope he would be very proud. But I’ve made a lot more money as a fake doctor than my father ever did for all his hard work.”

On how his children put up with him: “My children put up with me. They are well aware of my peculiar ways. Thank heavens they haven’t caught my dreary outlook. For them, I am a cautionary tale. They look at me and say, ‘The hell with it. I’m not going to live that way.’ Good for them. I’ll tell you the one extreme pleasure I admit to—praising them. My children are actually perfect.”

Hugh is such a family man. I like that. Right now you can catch Hugh in the movie Monsters VS Aliens where he plays a cockroach that’s a doctor. I wonder how much of a stretch this character was for him?
