Holiday Picture Taking Is A Snap

Now that Thanksgiving is over it’s time to start thinking about the holidays. I love my camera and at Christmas I go crazy taking pictures of everything. So how can you make your holiday pictures look great? Here are some simple tips:

Change perspectives: It’s great to see pictures that aren’t all head on. Try shooting pictures from below your subject. Or shoot them from above. It really makes things different.

Go outside: It may be winter but sometimes the best light happens outside. When you can take your pictures outside.

Take pictures during the action: It’s great to get your kids when they are busy playing. Another good time is when they are ripping the wrapping off their Christmas presents. It’s nice to have posed pictures but showing kids in the action is nice too.

Be quick: If you are trying to take a posed picture with your baby in that Santa hat be quick. The longer you take the crankier the baby will become.

Study your manual: For the most part digital cameras are easy to use but you can miss some important features by not reading the manual that came with your camera. It also can give you some great tips to take better pictures.

Use the highest resolution: I know this was the hardest lesson for me to learn. I would use the smallest resolution I could and my pictures would turn out horrible. If you use the highest resolution you can crop or zoom in without losing the quality of the picture.

Take a lot of pictures: Don’t be afraid that you will have too many pictures. I found taking a lot of pictures of even the same thing showed me what worked and didn’t work for the next time I took pictures.

I have had two digital camera’s now in the last three years. I think the way you can really get good pictures is to play around with the camera and take pictures of everything. I really like taking pictures of my cats as they are better subjects sometimes. They have taught me a lot about lighting.
