On balancing career and family: The secret is…there is no balancing. You have to surrender to not be everywhere at all times. Everyone and everything suffers at times but the guilt that a mother imposes on herself it the worst of all. Do the best you can and know it’s good enough.
On what Vanessa’s parents taught her: To make your children independent so they can survive in the world. Realize there are always consequences to every action and always forgive with love.
On what she wants to teach her children: Along with the lessons that my parents taught me, my children respect life, the environment and treat people with kindness.
On the best way to spend family time: We go horseback riding at a ranch yearly, enjoy vacations on the beach and love family time at the dinner table.
