Picking A Baby Name For Your New Baby

In this world of odd names like Honor, Levi and Sunday, we sometimes need to re-evaluate and think about the names we give our children forever. Here are some hints…

1. Google the name choice. It’s always good to see who else has the name or if there are nasty pictures associated with the name. Face it, we are becoming a world that Googles everything. You don’t want someone to think negatively about the name.

2. Say the name you have chosen out loud. Say it with the last name and then add in the middle name…does it flow? Does it rhyme? Do the intials spell anything rude or funny?

3. Take the chosen name and come up with as many insults as you can. For instance, the name Vickie pretty much rhymes with every letter of the alphabet with some rude names in there as well. If you can’t come up with any insults for your name then you may have the best name!

4. Try not to make the spelling complicated. If you want to name your child an exotic name or a normal name with a different spelling keep in mind that every time your child says their name they will have to spell it. That gets to be a pain for the kid. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the easiest.

5. If there is a sentimental name and you need to use it, consider using it as a middle name or a nickname. If you want to name your child Pumpkin because that’s what you called it ever since you found out you were pregnant consider using it as a nickname. You don’t want people to ask you when you are having your next baby, ‘Squash.’

Naming your baby is a hard thing because you know it will be with them forever. Does your child have an odd name? Feel free to leave the name below.

  1. Here’s a hint…run blindfolded through the grocery store. Pick something up. Whatever it is, that’s the first name. Look through your family history for old-timey pretentious names and if there aren’t any, pick up a book that everyone says is literary and choose a name from it. That’s the middle name. I suspect a Guava Holden Aniston in our future!

  2. If they name a baby Guava…I will die.. :(

  3. Sound advice. Googling for baby names is a must nowadays!

  4. Good stuff, looking forward to sticking around.
